Tertiary Students encouraged to journey with Christ
Miss Opoku receives her certificate from V-C, Prof. Ephraim.
Your stay in Catholic University College of Ghana is likened to the men on their way to Emmaus in the Holy Scriptures: it is a journey that would shape, enlighten and expose you to much experience, knowledge, and hidden truth of life; a deeper understanding of phenomenon; and real meaning of issues, etc. that would make meaningful impact on your academic endeavors as students.” Most Rev. Gyamfi told the students. He stressed that the need for Christ Jesus in the life of the youth, especially, those in the tertiary level institutions in the country, was more than ever needed and that they should strive to walk their lives with Christ, the giver of all wisdom, knowledge, power and life. “Christ’s presence in tertiary institution is ever more demanding in our dispensation should we look into the future with hope.” He reiterated.

Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, the Episcopal Chairman of the Catholic University College of Ghana and Bishop of Sunyani Diocese, advised the students during the usual Opening Mass celebration at the University campus at Fiapre-Sunyani recently. Opening Mass is a semester religious function of the University where students and staff are ushered into the semester with Christ Jesus.

In his homily, Bishop Gyamfi urged the students to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit in their actions and inactions, as he noting, “You need Jesus, the Holy Spirit, to guide you, help you understand, and have better appreciation of life, truth and realities”. Just as the eyes of the two disciples were opened when they welcomed Jesus and sought to know from Him, Bishop Gyamfi encouraged the students to find time to be with Christ so that their eyes, minds, spirits and souls would be opened by the Holy Spirit. This would enable them to adequately understand the essence of being students of the university.

He emphasized that as students and youth, they were the future of their countries and stressed the need for them to develop their intellectual abilities, moral values and academic expertise needed to harness the resources of the land for better life.

The Bishop similarly encouraged the Faculties to help create the enabling environment for the students to develop and have better moral, ethical and intellectual values to live meaningful lives and contribute to the growth and development of their communities. Faculties were to be mentors and good examples for the students to emulate to become unique graduates.

The Vice-Chancellor presented certificates of honour to some students including Ms. Gloria Kwakyewaa Opoku, Ms. Sabina Ampon-Wireko and Mr. George Nii Nettey for the excellent performances they put up in the name of Catholic University during the PUSAG games held in Accra. Present at the Opening Mass included the Registrar, some of the Deans, Snr. Assist. Registrar and other Faculty members.
